Isaiah 10: 27
And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.
Today’s scripture was God’s message to the Israelites concerning their enemies, the Assyrians. Through God’s anointing, the Assyrian yoke was to be broken. The same promise the Lord gave the Israelites many years ago to break bondage is coming to you today if you will accept and believe it.
What is the anointing? The anointing is the supernatural power that believers need to be able to carry out the demands of the Christian live. It is impartation of unction on one’s life to cause that person to carry out his God-given assignments. ‘How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him’ (Acts 10:38). The anointing is the very presence of God in a believer’s life; without it the believer is powerless and ineffective.
From our text, two major things will hinder a believer from experiencing God’s Manifold Grace: burden and yoke. A burden is anything that weighs a man down from moving at a pace he wants to; while a yoke is an instrument of stagnation and disturbance. The enemy puts yokes on people to keep them enslaved and moving at a very slow pace or not at all. Any Christian that is under a yoke will eat and live like a slave. It limits the reach of an animal from feeding, so if a man carries a yoke, it will limit the amount of blessings he has access to. Whereas yokes and burdens limit a person’s blessings, the anointing is a burden removal and the yoke-breaking power of God. So, what does the anointing do?
- The anointing empowers a man to function supernaturally. Anointing of the Holy Spirit empowers believers and enables them to do exploits. ‘How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him’ (Acts 10:38).
- The anointing heals all manners of sicknesses and infirmities. James 5:13-15 Says, “… Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.”
- The anointing sets a man apart for God’s special use. “So Jehu left the others and went into the house. Then the young prophet poured the oil over Jehu’s head and said, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I anoint you king over the Lord’s people, Israel.’ (2 Kings 9:6). Genesis 28:18 also says “So early in the morning Jacob took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it.”
- The anointing protects. 1 Chronicles 16:21-22 says “He allowed no one to oppress them; he rebuked kings on their account, saying, ‘Touch not my anointed ones! Do my prophets no harm!’
- The anointing enables one to preach the good tidings. ‘The Spirit of the Lord Godis upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; … the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified’ (Isaiah 61:1-3).
- The anointing gives freedom. ‘And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom; and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people’ (Matthew 4: 23).
- The anointing transforms a man. When the anointing of the Holy Spirit comes upon a man, he becomes a different person totally. ‘And Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head …… and thou shall be turned into another man’ (I Samuel 10: 1-6).
- The anointing elevates a man. When the anointing comes upon a person, he is lifted and elevated without protocols. Esther was elevated from a slave girl to a queen. ‘But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of an unicorn; I shall be be anointed with fresh oil’ (Psalm 92:10).
As you are anointed today, may you never remain the same. Every burden shall be lifted from off your shoulder and every yoke broken in Jesus’ name. Trust the anointing to liberate and lift you up to enjoy Manifold Grace. Shalom!
